Tracy Jacobson used her training and experience in accounting and technology while working for a company that manufactured computer hard drives. At that time, she never would have guessed that she’d end up working in the arts, but twenty-five years ago she took a job overseeing the business end of the Grand Teton Music Festival—whose mission is to “provide exhilarating musical experiences [by offering] great classical and other fine music performed by outstanding artists for the enjoyment, education, and personal enrichment of all whose lives we touch.” This year the festival celebrates its fiftieth season, with Jacobson at the helm as executive director.
Q. How did you end up in Jackson Hole?
A. I met my husband, Tim, while in college in Santa Cruz, California, and he was from Jackson Hole. He’s from an old ranching family in the area, so I ended up moving here with him.
Q. How did your background in auditing and quality control translate into working with the music festival?
A. Here is a place where there is a lot of details and a lot of coordinating. About three hundred musicians come to Jackson each year to perform with the festival. It’s a lot of logistics.
