Clarene Law’s life centers on service—from serving on the school board to the state legislature, and always in the hospitality industry. An Idaho native, she came to Jackson in 1959 at twenty-six years of age. Before she turned thirty, her family partnered with her to help buy the Antler Inn. Today, walk into the inn, located on Pearl Street, and Law, seventy-seven, will likely be bustling around or working upstairs in her office, where she’s surrounded by family photos. Her family now owns and runs several of Jackson’s lodging options: The 49’er Inn and Suites, the Elk Country Inn, and the Cowboy Village Resort, as well as the Antler Inn. Through the years two things have remained important to Law: family and service.
Q. What started you on your career in the hospitality industry?
A. I didn’t have a college degree, but I had bookkeeping skills. When a bookkeeper quit at the Wort Hotel, the owners asked me to come in and type documents and [take] their inventory.
