Seeing Red

The American Red Cross Blood Drive comes to Teton Valley four times a year, twice in the spring and twice in the fall. These photos were shot at the drawing that took place last December in the Seniors Center (home to Seniors West of the Tetons) at the new Driggs City Center. The goal of each drive is to collect eighty units of blood from community members. Typically, around a hundred individuals volunteer to give blood, with fifteen or twenty deferred due to various reasons. The blood goes to a regional collection facility, and from there is sent out to various hospitals, as needed. According to the Red Cross, one pint of blood can save three lives, but donated blood has a shelf life of only thirty days. (For more information, visit www.givelife.org)
